Session replay pricing comparison

Enter your monthly sessions (or MAU as a stand-in) and see what Hotjar, Fullstory, LogRocket, PostHog and UserTapes would actually charge you at that volume — not the teaser price on the homepage.

VendorCost at your volumeTier

Figures from each vendor's own published pricing, verified on the dates shown on their alternative pages. Where a vendor doesn't publish pricing above a threshold, this shows "Contact sales" rather than guessing.

Why the sticker price and your real price rarely match

Every tool in this category has a headline number — Hotjar's ~$39/mo, LogRocket's "from $176/mo" — but those apply to one specific volume, and most sites aren't at it. Hotjar's daily session cap in particular means the plan you need is driven by your busiest day, not your average one; see the Hotjar alternative page for what that costs in practice on a spike day.

PostHog and similar usage-based tools have the opposite problem: the price is precise, but it moves with you, which makes a spiky month hard to forecast even though the rate itself is fully published.

What this comparison doesn't capture

Price and volume are one axis. What each tool actually gives you for a session is another — heatmaps and surveys on some, a searchable analytics suite on others, and on UserTapes, a text transcript of every session alongside the video, queryable by your coding agent over MCP. If two tools land close on price at your volume, that's usually the more useful tiebreaker than the number itself — see the full comparison table for what each one is actually built for.

FAQ

Is this pricing live from each vendor?

The figures are pulled from each vendor's own pricing page, checked and dated — see the verified date under each row's source. This calculator isn't scraping vendor sites in real time; it recalculates the total for your volume against the tiers and rates we last verified.

Why does it say "Contact sales" for some vendors at high volume?

Several vendors — Fullstory and LogRocket among them — don't publish pricing above their entry tier. Rather than guess, we show the last published figure and mark anything above it as sales-gated, which is accurate: you genuinely can't know that number without a call.

Is PostHog's number exact?

PostHog is priced per recording rather than in flat tiers, so its number is a real calculation from their published rate schedule — the first 5,000 free, then a declining per-recording rate. It should match what you'd see on their own pricing calculator for the same volume.

MAU or sessions — which should I enter?

Whichever number these tools would actually meter you on: session replay vendors typically bill on sessions or recordings per month, not unique visitors. If you only know MAU, it's a reasonable stand-in, but expect your real session count to run higher if visitors return more than once a month.
