LogRocket is a good product aimed at a bigger company than you probably are. That is the entire comparison, and everything below is detail.
Why people look for an alternative
Almost always price, and almost always the same shape of complaint: replay is the part of LogRocket they use, and they are paying platform prices for it.
At $176/mo for 25,000 sessions (verified July 2026), LogRocket’s entry point is roughly six times UserTapes’ Indie Deck. That is not LogRocket being greedy — you are getting error monitoring, product analytics, and unlimited log ingestion in the same bill. It is excellent value if you use all of it.
The trouble is that a lot of teams do not. They adopted LogRocket to watch sessions, kept Sentry for errors because Sentry was already wired into their release process, and never moved analytics off whatever they had. Now they have a platform bill for one feature.
The second reason, quieter but growing: LogRocket’s AI features are LogRocket’s. Galileo summarises sessions and flags issues inside their product. That is useful. It is also not the same as your own coding agent — the one with your repository open — being able to read sessions directly.
The honest comparison
LogRocket is the better product. It does more, it does it well, and if you need a correlated view across replay, errors, and analytics, nothing here competes. UserTapes records sessions and makes them readable. That is the whole scope.
Where UserTapes wins is narrower and sharper:
Price at small scale. $29/mo for 15,000 sessions against $176/mo for 25,000. If you are doing 8,000 sessions a month, LogRocket’s floor means you pay for 25,000 whether you use them or not.
A free tier that exists. 100 sessions, no card, no expiry. LogRocket lists no free plan, so evaluating it means a sales conversation or a trial clock.
Your agent, not their AI. UserTapes exposes sessions over MCP, so Claude
Code or Cursor can query them alongside your codebase and then go fix what it
found. Galileo tells you about a problem. An agent with MCP access reads the
session, finds the swallowed 422 in checkout.js, and opens the diff.
Retention you can see. 30 days on paid plans, stated on the pricing page. LogRocket does not publish theirs.
Where LogRocket stays the right answer
Be honest with yourself about which of these is true:
- You genuinely use the error monitoring and analytics. Then LogRocket is cheaper than three vendors, and you should stay.
- You need to debug application state, not just DOM. LogRocket’s Redux and network inspection is a real capability UserTapes does not have.
- You are above 100,000 sessions/mo. Their pricing structure improves at scale and Pro tier features come included.
- Your organisation needs SSO, audit logs, and a procurement-friendly vendor.
If two or more of those are true, do not switch. Nothing below changes that.
What migrating actually involves
There is no import path, and you should be sceptical of anyone who claims one — session recordings are not portable between tools in any meaningful way. The realistic plan:
- Add the UserTapes snippet alongside LogRocket. One script tag, under 15 KB, served from your own origin. Both record in parallel.
- Run both for a fortnight. This is the part people skip, and it is the only way to find out whether the narrower tool actually covers your use.
- Connect the MCP server to your agent and try the workflow that matters: “find the sessions where checkout broke this week.”
- Let your LogRocket retention window age out before cancelling, so you keep access to historical sessions while you decide.
Historical LogRocket recordings do not come with you. Plan around that rather than being surprised by it.
